One Small Stomp for a Student....

…one soaring flight for Paper-Rocket-Kind.

Over a month earlier we had spent a session building our rockets and had since more-or-less patiently bided our time while lousy weather covered not only our hometown but most of the Midwest. Mother Nature finally relented and sent us a sunny day, giving us the opportunity to at last launch our air-powered rockets into the sky.

The Explorers Space Race

In March 2011, the Explorers endeavored to reach for the stars. Well, for the tops of the trees, at least.

Launch Day Arrives

After a couple of weeks of wondering whether our rockets would soar or flop, the chance to test them finally came. (See the story “What is this, rocket science?” to see the construction of our rockets at our previous meeting.)

What is this, rocket science?

Why yes, rocket science is exactly what the Explorers undertook at the end of February 2009.

Using long hard tubes made from PVC pipe, the club members formed rocket bodies from sheets of magazine paper. They wrapped the magazine sheets tightly around the pipes, then taped the resulting seam completely before sliding the paper off of the pipes.
